Geovicon Environmental was founded by Michael Derek Bate on 1 April 1996 (then called Geovicon cc) and got converted to (Pty) Ltd in 2006 and was renamed Geovicon Environmental.

Personnel of Geovicon Environmental have collectively over 70 years experience in the environmental arena. The chairperson and directors are not mere environmental practitioners, but scientists in their own right.

Mr. Ornassis Tshepo Shakwane (TSHEPO SHAKWANE) (IAIAsa 3847) obtained his B.Sc. (Microbiology and Biochemistry) from the University of Durban Westville in 1994, and completed his honours degree in Microbiology in 1995. He was a research student at the University of Duban Westville and the University of Pretoria during 1996 and 2000.

Mrs. Johanna Maria Bate (RIANA BATE) (IAIAsa 3849) obtained her B.Sc. Degree in 1982 from the University of Pretoria and thereafter, a B.Sc. (Honns.) degree in Entomology in 1983 at the same university. In 1984, she joined the Agricultural Research Council, Grain Crops Insitute, as a Junior Researcher. At the same time, she enrolled for a M.Sc. at the University of Stellenbosch.

Mr. Tlou Gladman Tefu (GLADMAN TEFU) (IAIAsa 3848) obtained his Diploma in Geology, First Class, from Technikon Mmadikoti in 1978. During 1978 to 1987, he worked for various Mining Companies in the field of both Geophysics and Geology, as a Technician. He obtained his B.Sc. Degree in Geology from the University of Witwatersrand in 1991.
Chairperson of the Board
Mr. Michael Derek Bate (MICHAEL BATE) (IAIAsa 3846) obtained his B.Sc. (Geology) from the Potchefstroom University for CHE in 1993, and completed his honours degree (cum Laude) in Geology in 1994. He obtained his M.Sc. (cum Laude) in 1995.
During 1994 – 1995, Mr. Bate was a junior lecturer in geology at the Potchefstroom University for CHE. He joined the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry during 1995. During 1996, Mr. Bate started Geovicon cc and undertook consulting activities in the coal, base metal, diamond and gold industries.
Michael Bate is currently the Chairperson of the board of directors of Geovicon Environmental (PTY) Ltd and the company uses his expertise as and when necessary. He has since pursued other business ventures.
